New Schools for New Orleans is proud to announce the 2023 winners of the New Orleans Excellence in Teaching Awards (NOETA), an integral component of The Allstate Sugar Bowl New Orleans Teacher Community. This year, 89 teachers will be awarded the NOETA.
The NOETA is an enormous honor given to the teacher of the year from every public school in New Orleans. It is presented alongside a $1,000 Classroom Excellence Grant at the annual NOETA Gala. The 2023 gala is sponsored by Entergy and will be held this year on October 21st at the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans. More information about NOETA, the Gala, and our winners can be found at noeta.org.
The NOETA winners represent the top 3% of educators in the city. These teachers are enormously dedicated to their students. They bring immense experience, skill, and care to their work, and they provide a model for new and aspiring teachers to emulate. Their principals have identified them as among the most impactful educators in their schools, and their students have shared what a difference they’ve made in their lives.
“Teachers are some of the hardest-working, most powerful members of our community. They are helping our city’s young people learn, grow, and find belonging in their classrooms, and we are so proud to honor them with this award,” said Dana Peterson, CEO of New Schools for New Orleans. “Being honored at the NOETA Gala is one incredible night of celebration for winners but we’re grateful for these teachers every moment, and we’re proud to support all our city’s teachers year-round.”
This year’s NOETA winners represent a wide range of subjects, grade levels, and teaching styles. The 89 teachers average 13 years of experience, and many have over two decades in the classroom. A great number of these educators contribute deeply to our community outside of the classroom as coaches, mentors, advocates, artists and musicians, family members, and entrepreneurs.
Our sponsors are proud to support them. NOETA, the Gala, and the Allstate Sugar Bowl Teacher Community are made possible due to the commitment and generosity of our sponsors. This year, primary support for the awards and gala are provided by Entergy, Allstate Sugar Bowl, and the College Football Playoff Foundation.
“New Orleans' public school teachers are expanding students’ horizons, opening up new opportunities, and preparing students for success long beyond graduation day,” said Deanna Rodriguez, President and CEO of Entergy New Orleans. “We’re thrilled to honor some of our city’s very best teachers through the prestigious New Orleans Excellence in Teaching Awards and Gala.”
NOETA is an initiative of the Allstate Sugar Bowl New Orleans Teacher Community, a partnership that paves a way to sustain and expand events, programs, and resources for educators in the city.
“The Allstate Sugar Bowl is proud to continue its support of the New Orleans Excellence in Teaching Awards, and we’re honored to work with the College Football Playoff Foundation and New Schools for New Orleans to provide recognition for outstanding educators,” said Jeff Hundley, CEO of the Allstate Sugar Bowl. “ Furthermore, it’s imperative that we do everything we can to retain the best of the best in the teaching profession, because they’re educating young people who represent the future of our city.”
