137 CADETS GRADUATE FROM NOMMA HIGH
The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA), a top-rated, open admissions public charter 8-12 high school adjacent to the Marine Forces Reserve national headquarters in Federal City in Algiers, held its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2023 to honor its 137 graduating cadets, 55 of which attended NOMMA as the school’s first-ever 8th-grade class.  Graduation was held May 20 at the John Alario Event Center in Westwego.  The commencement speaker was Mr. Darrin Browder, Executive Director, Court Watch NOLA and the son of NOMMA’s first employee and only Sergeant Major to date, Sgt. Major Sylvester Browder. NOMMA’s 2023 Valedictorian is Maci Roark (pictured) and Basim Zahran is the Salutatorian. Ms. Roark, a native of Marrero, LA, has attended New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) since the 8th grade and participated in a variety of activities throughout her high school career, including advanced placement classes, dual enrollment, JROTC Supply, National Honor Society, technical assistance, and community service. She is a POSSE Scholarship awardee and is attending the University of Notre Dame. Maci hopes to one day become an anesthesiologist. Maci’s parents are Dayne and Natasha Roark. Mr. Zahran, a native of Bridge City, has attended New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) since 9th grade. Basim has participated in a variety of activities throughout his high school career, including band, advanced placement classes, National Honor Society, technical assistance, and community service. Basim plans on attending the University of New Orleans to study Computer Science with a full scholarship. Basim’s parents' are Walid and Kimberly Zahran.
