 New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy Students Win Best Documentary at Film Prize Jr. for “Martha’s Journey”Three New Orleans Military and Maritime students have been awarded “Best Documentary” by Film Prize Junior 20223 for their documentary Martha’s Journey. The film, featuring Nelvis Matamoros, was written, directed and edited by NOMMA students Alejandro Soliz Vasquez, Patrick Soliz Vasquez and Andres Perez. It was produced by the COOL Cooperative. The film is now available to view here: https://filmprizejr.com/video/marthas-journey/In “Martha’s Journey,” a newly naturalized citizen describes the trials and tribulations of the path from her native Honduras to living and working in New Orleans, and how she found faith and hope along the way.The film was also featured in the Cool Cooperative First Annual Student Film Slam on May 7. The SLAM is a mini-movie festival that will premiere short films written, directed and produced by students from across South Louisiana.Film Prize Junior is the high school version of the Film Prize Foundation’s flagship festival, Louisiana Film Prize. The competition is open to high school students age 14-18 across the state. It was created by Tobias Kallenberg, son of Film Prize creator Gregory Kallenberg, and aims to incentivize students to become engaged in the storytelling process, increase their media literacy, and provide soft skills needed to engage in a collaborative, multidisciplinary art form of filmmaking and entrepreneurial ingenuity.To participate in Film Prize Junior, teachers and students must follow a program where they learn how to create a screenplay, work together to produce the film and to promote their film to an audience.
