|  Teacher Appreciation Week and NOLA Teacher Fest Updates! 
 At NSNO, we are committed to supporting our city’s phenomenal educators. We’ve officially launched RSVPs for our second-annual NOLA Teacher Fest, our yearly festival for teachers, paraprofessionals, and all public school staff across the city. Last year, over 1,000 educators joined us, and we expect even more this year. We’ll be at Champions Square on May 5th with free food, drinks, music, prizes, and games–if you’re an educator, please RSVP today!We’re also gearing up for Teacher Appreciation Week! From May 8-11th, we’re securing deals for teachers at local businesses. Educators can keep up to date on our social media, where we’ll be announcing local deals for educators.  |

|  Tomorrow’s Teachers: Meet John F. Kennedy High School Graduates Jakeim Matthews and Sahaan Bickham
 Jakeim Matthews, JFK ‘21 and Sahaan Bickham, JFK ‘22, are members of the KIPP New Orleans Alumni Teaching Force. Both students began exploring a career in teaching while they were still in high school. As part of the KIPP New Orleans Alumni Teaching Force, they have a pathway to a role in a KIPP New Orleans school once they graduate from college. (This is the latest piece in our “Tomorrow's Teachers” series. Check out profiles of student-educators at Warren Easton Charter High School and Booker T. Washington High School as well!)  |

|  Act 91 Preserves New Orleans' Unique SystemWith the Louisiana legislative session beginning this week, NSNO has been engaging in advocacy around Act 91, the bill that supports our unique system of public schools. It solidified elements of family choice and access and gave schools autonomy to innovate while holding schools accountable for their academic performance, governance, and fiscal management. It provides the structure that encourages the innovation and progress needed to deliver on the promise of a great school for every child in New Orleans.

In this piece, we provide an update on the great and measurable impact our schools have made over the past 15 years, and the need to preserve equity in access and enrollment in order to drive continuous improvements.   |

|  New Orleans Common Application Process (NCAP) Results are inNOLA-PS has released the results of the NCAP (formerly OneApp), the common application process through which families apply for spots in schools across the city. Ninety percent of kindergarten and 9th grade applicants seeking a new placement received one of their top 3 school choices. |  Jefferson Parish School Board to Close Several Schools at End of the Year (WWLTV.com)Jefferson Parish is experiencing a decline in public school enrollment. These shifts are related to a decline in birth rate; there are simply fewer students to enroll in school. Low enrollment puts a strain on school finances, which makes it harder for schools to stay open and operate while providing the resources children deserve. In Jefferson Parish, the School Board made the difficult choice to close certain schools at the end of the year. New Orleans’ schools are also seeing a decline in enrollment. You can read NSNO’s detailed analysis of what those enrollment trends mean for our district here.
