September 3, 2022                                Contact: Heather Harper hharper at h2nola.net or (504) 289-0499      The Willow School Celebrates New School Program and Campus Names  Four events commemorate building on a great legacy                September 3, 2022- The Willow School (formerly Lusher Charter School) celebrated its new program and individual campus names with four events this weekend. Yesterday, a new school program name celebration was held with an arch reveal at the Elijah J. Brimmer, Jr. Campus and today three ribbon cutting events at The Willow School’s individual campuses officially celebrated their new names.                   “With these events, The Willow School officially builds on its legacy as a quality K-12 public school and begins a new process of strengthening its added commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Interim CEO Nicolette London. “The Willow legacy builds on the specific lessons learned from the past two years about belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion.  Today, we celebrate The Willow School and its continuing commitment to excellence in education .”             The school name celebration on Friday included a reveal of the new Willow School arch at the Freret Street school entrance. The high school student body gathered to celebrate with music, student and VIP speakers, and the firing of school color cannons.              Today, Interim CEO London led three celebrations at each school campus:    DR. WILLIAMS CAMPUS The first event took place at the lower school campus on Willow Street and celebrated its new designation as the Dr. Everett J. Williams, Jr.  Campus with a ribbon cutting and a “morning meeting,” a school tradition with dancing, singing and celebrating with musician Phillip Manuel.   Interim CEO Nicolette London and members of the Williams family joined the Willow community for the unveiling of Dr. Williams’ official portrait.               BRIMMER CAMPUS At noon on Freret Street, NOLA-Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams, Interim CEO London,  School Board Members Olin Parker and Carlos Zervigon, City Council members and members of the Brimmer family gathered with members of the Willow community to officially designate the high school campus as the Elijah J. Brimmer, Jr.  Campus  (formerly the Alcee Fortier Campus). The event  culminated with the unveiling of the official portrait of Elijah Brimmer, Jr., followed by  a performance by the alumni band of  Fortier High School with a traditional march out of the building and down the front steps.               MARSALIS CAMPUS At 4p.m., the Middle School Campus on Loyola Avenue closed out the day by christening the Ellis Marsalis, Jr. Campus (formerly Allen School). Interim CEO London, members of the Marsalis family and the school community celebrated with a jazz band performance and the unveiling of the Ellis Marsalis Official Portrait.         The Willow School officially changed its name from Lusher Charter School on July 1.  For more information on The Willow School, go to: www.willowschoolnola.org    For the bios of Dr. Everett J.
