| Every ten years following the U.S. Census, the boundaries of all local governments that elect by district (including school districts that elect board members like OPSB) are updated to reflect how populations have changed.  OPSB redistricting timeline and meeting dates●      October 18, 2022 – The first draft maps will be presented to OPSB ●      November 2022 – The OPSB redistricting process will host an open house in each board district to encourage public feedback on the draft maps●      December 13, 2022 – The OPSB will be presented with revised maps based on public feedback●      January 2023 – An additional series of open houses will be held to encourage comment on the revised maps●      February 2023 – Final public comments deadline●      February 2023 – Final maps will be submitted to the OPSB for a vote  The redistricting processBy law, OPSB redistricting must: ●      Be done in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws including the Federal Voting Rights Act●      Not be done to favor or disfavor a protected class or political partyOrleans Parish School Board districts should:●      Be nearly equal in population ●      Be as compact as possible●      Consist of geographically contiguous areas●      To the extent feasible, have boundaries that coincide with existing recognized natural boundaries●      To the extent feasible, preserve existing communities of related and mutual interest
OPSB and NOPS will be working with census data experts FLO Analytics to assess the district’s population and communities of related interests to develop preliminary options (draft maps) for the seven OPSB member districts. How to get involved with OPSB's redistricting processThe OPSB redistricting process wants to hear from you before they approve the final map in February 2023.
