Gratitude For Our Community

|  To our community; 

Many of our team members at NSNO are former teachers. My colleague Dr. Jahquille Ross, who runs the NOLA Teacher Community, used to teach second grade, and he recently led us in an activity that would resonate no matter your age. The exercise involved matching peanut M&Ms to color-coded prompts, but the idea was this: we talked about what we were grateful for. Some of us got to share a place we’re grateful for, some a person, others an object or a memory. 

It was a meaningful conversation, and I’d like to invite you into it. There is so much we’re grateful for at NSNO. I want to share some of that here. 

First and foremost, we are grateful for our amazing students. They continue to inspire and motivate us. Our city’s future is bright because they’re going to be leading it. Everything we do at NSNO is for them.  |

|  Our educators are brilliant, skilled, and thoughtful. We are grateful for all they teach us as they teach their children. Here’s just some of the wisdom they shared with us this year:“When I tell people about my ‘why’ about education, a lot of it has nothing to do with kids being smart. Kids are smart. We don’t make them smart, we just keep growing their brains. |  We’re also grateful for the many people across our schools who are playing a role outside the classroom. From school nurses to school counselors, maintenance and cafeteria teams, bus drivers, front desk coordinators, operations managers, coaches, and beyond, we know that there are so many dedicated professionals serving our children each day. 

We are grateful for the leadership and partnership of Superintendent Williams and her team at NOLA-PS. We are also grateful for our legislative and nonprofit partners across the state. 

We are grateful for the community that surrounds our children–the family members, neighbors, community leaders and friends that support them and enrich their lives. 

And we are grateful for all of you. If you’re reading this newsletter, you are a part of our community, and we are stronger because of it. Thank you.
