March 24, 2021 Contact: Heather Harper (504) 289-0499 or hharper at h2nola.net 21 Lake Forest Charter School Students Place in 2021 Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair Lake Forest Charter School had 21 students place in various categories of the 2021 Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair, and 12 will move on to the Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair, announced Chief Executive Officer Mardele Early. The School had the following major student award winners: · Najae Watson, 8th grade, won First Place for the National American Psychological Association Award and the Tulane Brain Institute Award; · Devin Butler, 8th grade, won First Place for the New Orleans MENSA High IQ Society Award; · Raymond Duplessis, 8th grade, won First Place for the National U.S. Metric Association Award and First Place for the Women for a Better Louisiana recognition; · Tu-Uyen Hoang, 8th grade, won First place for the New Orleans American Chemical Society Award; · Angela Nguyen, 8th grade, won First Place in the National NASA Earth System Science Award, Second Place for the New Orleans Geological Society and received the local chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Award; · Nancy Do, 8th grade, won First Place for the national Society of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology Award; and · Joseph Luu,, 8th grade, won First Place for the Delta Chapter of Society of Petroleum Engineers, Inc. Award.
And Lake Forest teachers were winners, too:
· Dr. Sharika Hagan won the Delta Chapter of Society of Petroleum Engineers, Inc. Teacher Award; · Dr. Hagan and Ms. Marla Watts won the Junior Divison/Teacher Mentor Award for going the extra mile to support their students in the Junior Division; both are multiple year winners. These are all the Lake Forest 7th graders who placed in the competition: Britney Nguyen, 2nd place, Plant Science; Hayden Le, 2nd in Energy: Sustainable Materials and Design; Dinah Smith, 2nd in Chemistry; Psalm McClellan, 2nd in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology; Sanaa Scharpon, 3rd in Embedded Systems; Olivia Ochillo, 4th in Energy: Sustainable Materials and Design; Emma Dinh, 4th in tEngineering Mechanics. Britney Nguyen, Hayden Le, Psalm McClellan and Dinah Smith will be moving on to the state science fair. The following 8th grade students placed in competition: Leilani Staes, 1st, in Microbiology; Najae Watson, 1st in Behavioral and Social Sciences, Raymond Duplessis, 1st in Earth and Environmental Sciences; Leah Butler, 2nd in Mathematics and Systems Software; Angela Nguyen; 2nd in Environmental Engineering; Allen Powell, 2nd, Embedded Systems; Kaitlyn Parker, 2nd, Biomedical and Health Science and Biomedical Engineering; Jacob Tran, 2nd, Behavioral and Social Sciences; sabella Nguyen, 3rd, Plant Sciences; Nancy Do, 3rd, Microbiology; Tu-Uyen Hoang, 3rd, Chemistry; Devin Butler, 3rd, Animal Sciences; Macie Criddle 4th, Biomedical and Health Science and Biomedical Engineering; Ashanti Buckles, 4th, Physics and Astronomy. Najae Watson, Leilani States, Raymond Duplesiss, Leah Butler, Angela Nguyen, Allen Powell, Kaitlyn Parker, and Jacob Tran will move on to the state science fair…the second tie for Leilani and Raymond! These students also placed 1st in the Broadcom Masters, a national competition for students in grades 6th- 8th: Eighth graders Najae Watson, Kaitlyn Parker, Raymond Duplessis, Angela Nguyen and Leilani States; Seventh graders, Hayden Le and Britney Nguyen.
