My name is Mashaera Alexander; I am excited to contact you on behalf of KID smART (https://www.kidsmart.org) and to share with you our efforts to support the New Orleans community and engage its members, especially the youth, in at-home learning during this challenging time. Our response takes form in a creative e-learning series called "Art Apart" that engages young artists (K-8th grade students) and their families in weekly hands-on activities, read-alouds, and body movement exercises led by KID smART's teaching artists. As an example, teaching artist Martin Bradford produced an acting lesson on April 3rd in which he shared tips and tricks to create unique characters using one of the 3 W’s (Who, What, Where). Mr. Martin "directed" participants through four elements of creating a character: walk, voice, emotion, and want. Participants were then instructed to name their character, embody said character, and attempt to fulfill a request as that character. We invite you to check out the KID smART YouTube channel where new videos premiere every weekday morning. Feel free to also follow us on our social media pages (@kidsmartnola) and artist blog (kidsmartnola.tumblr.com) to stay updated. You can also contact KID smART Communication and Project Manager Cheryl Manley via email (cheryl at kidsmart.org) or phone (504-920-4993).
