[CharterSchools] Launching the E3 Fellowship for charter leaders

|  This fall, NSNO launched the Executive Education Experience, or “E3,” to identify and develop future executive-level leadership for our city’s schools and networks. CEOs and chief level executives are critical to the success and stability of our schools in New Orleans; their choices impact thousands of students. Through the E3 fellowship, for the first time ever, our city will have a clear way to find and prepare future leaders for those executive roles. The E3 fellowship supports an accomplished, dedicated, and intentionally diverse group of education leaders to eventually take on these important positions.Over the two-year fellowship, the E3 fellows will develop as executive leaders in core sessions facilitated by national and local education experts, including former Secretary of Education John King and Dr. Howard Fuller. They will also receive one-on-one executive leadership coaching, and engage in a four-day retreat to learn from high-performing national charter leaders. To find the most promising group of aspiring chief-level executives, we encouraged all current New Orleans school leaders to apply to E3. We received many strong applications; the group of fellows we chose are determined and talented, with a track record of success in school leadership. Over half of the fellows are leaders of color, and a third are New Orleans natives. Together, they also represent the diverse portfolio of schools that exist in our city; nearly half are single-site leaders.  We are proud to announce our first cohort here today:  |

School Director, Phillis Wheatley Community School
Diana has worked for 17 years in urban education, and has been School Director of Phillis Wheately for 10 years. Wheatley was above the Top Growth city and state average for ELA and Math in 2019.  |

|  Robert Bell
Principal, Lake Forest Charter School
Robert has 22 years of experience in urban education. Lake Forest maintained an “A” letter grade this year, with the second highest School Performance Score in NOLA Public Schools.  |

|  Steve Corbett
Principal, Lusher Charter School
With Steve in his third year as Lusher’s principal, Lusher received an “A” letter grade in 2019; it was also a 2019 Top Gains Honoree and 2019 Equity Honoree. Lusher is a US News and World Report Gold Medal High School.  |

John has been a member of the Dolores T. Aaron team for the past 8 years, and has served as school director for the past three years. DTA was above the Top Growth city and state average for ELA and Math in 2019.  |

Principal, Paul Habans Charter School
Elisabeth is in her fourth year as principal of Habans, which has earned an “A” Progress Index for the last three years.   |

Ava has been School Director of Green for 11 years, and was a 2019 Semi-Finalist for Louisiana Principal of the Year. She has a Doctorate of Education from Xavier University.   |

Head of School, Homer A. Plessy Community School
With Meghan in her second year as Head of School, Plessy has increased its letter grade and seen the second highest ELA growth in NOLA Public Schools.  |

|  Nicole Saulny
Head of School, Esperanza Charter School
Nicole has 25 years of experience in urban education and deep ties to the city’s schools; both of her parents were New Orleans’ educators. Esperanza improved to an  “A” Progress Index grade in 2019.  |

|  Antigua Wilbern
Principal, Bricolage Academy
Antigua has worked in education for 13 years. Bricolage earned a “B” letter grade in 2019, Antigua’s third year as principal. She is a member of the NewSchools Venture Fund’s Invent Cohort.  |

|  The intentional development of these fellows will serve as a catalyst for retaining our strongest teachers. This will inspire our students to achieve better life outcomes and provide our parents more quality options of which to choose from.  We are excited that these individuals are committed to their professional growth and look forward to them serving our city for years to come.  |
