Contact: Heather Harper (504) 897-6110 or hharper at h2nola.net NEW ORLEANS MILITARY AND MARITIME ACADEMY JUMPS TO AN ‘A’ RATED 8-12 OPEN ADMISSIONS HIGH SCHOOL FOR METRO AREA Charter School serving all metro-area parishes is only one with 100 percent student body participation in Marine Corps Junior ROTC and a designated Naval Honor School Now both a Top Gains and Equity Honoree boasting a 97 percent graduation rate and test scores that exceed state and city averages, the New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) joined the list of Louisiana high schools rated an “A” by the Louisiana Department of Education. “Our score jumped 10 points since the last release of School Performance Scores, a reflection of the outstanding work of the entire NOMMA team.” said NOMMA’s Commandant Colonel Chris Schlafer, USMC (Ret). “This reflects the hard work of our corps of cadets, as well as the tremendous dedication and effort of our teachers, Marine instructors, administrators, support staff, and parents in creating a quality and exceptional learning environment for young men and women seeking to make a positive difference in this world.” NOMMA is a Type 2, open-enrollment public charter school adjacent to the Marine Forces Reserve National Headquarters in Federal City in Algiers and offers priority enrollment to military dependents. This year’s enrollment exceeds 900 students. “Our commitment is to our cadets, and our program is focused on academic excellence and character development,” said Colonel Schlafer. “We believe we offer an unparalleled high school experience for any students who seek to challenge themselves, develop their self-discipline and leadership skills, and build a foundation for future success.” NOMMA provides a college preparatory curriculum and also offers career and technical education through Louisiana’s Jump Start program. Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, honors, and ESL courses are available as well as free after-school tutoring to all students. Enrollment is open to any student through enrollnola.com.
