NOMMA HIGH TEACHER JEFFREY WARNER RECEIVES NATIONAL HONOR      A student at the New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy, an 8-12 grade public charter school serving the greater New Orleans area which requires all students to participate in Marine Corps Junior ROTC, nominated his teacher, Jeffrey Warner, for a national honor for his dedication and commitment to excellence, and the teacher won!    The National Society of High School Scholars presented Educator Jeffrey Warner with its Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award for his "passion and devotion" to inspiring students to grow and develop as scholars, leaders and citizens.    NSHSS provides teachers, like Mr. Warner, with grants, professional development and other instructional enrichments that support their contributions to shaping the intellects and character of young high school students, said NOMMA Commandant Colonel Chris Schafer.       Mr. Warner is a professor of Advanced Placement U.S. History at NOMMA and has been a career social studies instructor in New Orleans public schools for over 11 years, after graduating with honors from Norwich University in the spring of 2007. He joined NOMMA’s staff in 2014.    “I found a natural fit with the academy’s JROTC structure and emphasis upon character development,” said Mr. Warner. “I have a true passion for challenging and pushing my Cadets in the classroom.”     Over the course of his work in New Orleans education, he has helped to pilot Advanced Placement programs at two different schools, and served in various instructional leadership and support roles. He is also the head coach of the NOMMA Boys Soccer team.     Enrollment is open now for all grades 8-12 at NOMMA located adjacent to the Marine Forces Reserve national headquarters in Federal City, Algiers. “Our diverse and talented cadet corps is taught by retired Marine Instructors and civilian teachers, who offer caring mentorship to enable our cadets to achieve their academic and personal potential,” said NOMMA Commandant Schlafer, USMC (Retired). “Our unique program is focused on academic learning and character development. We reserve 20 percent of our entry spots for military families and want your child in that number.”      Enrollment is open to families residing in any parish of the greater New Orleans area. “Our goal is to install in all our cadets the values of citizenship, self-discipline, and a sense of accomplishment. We strive to motivate and prepare our cadets to succeed with their future education in their chosen field of endeavor,” said Col. Schlafer. “I encourage all interested families to call today for the 2019-2020 school year.”  For additional information, eMail info at nomma.netor call (504) 227-3810.
