State's top academicperforming online charter school names 
Dr. Michelle Clayton,Superintendent

The University View Academy Board of Directors promoted Dr.Michelle Clayton to Superintendent ofthe K-12 statewide online charter school to focus on strengthening the school’sacademic performance and services. 
Over the past seven years, the school has grown from originallyserving 500 K-12 students to a current enrollment of 3000 students from everyparish of the state using an innovative model of online instruction bycertified Louisiana teachers.
            Dr. Michelle Clayton has served asAssociate Superintendent of University View for the past year under theleadership of Dr. Lonnie Luce. He is transitioning to a new leadership role asthe school’s Chief Operating Officer. A logistics expert, he will continue todevelop the school’s online brand and grow its enrollment base, as well asschool partners.

With Dr. Luce and the school’s leadership team, Dr. Clayton hashelped grow University View Academy into one with multiple campuses across thestate, including partnerships with e-Learning Centers in Acadiana, and recentlyabsorbing the students enrolled at Tallulah Charter School.            
UVA, with assistance from its Early College Program Director MandyLaCerte, signed a groundbreaking partnership with Northwestern State Universityin Natchitoches to offer a full Associates Degree or two-years college creditprogram to its graduating seniors at no cost to families. The school’s DualEnrollment program, which is provided to qualified middle and high schoolstudents at no cost, also has doubled in size in just the last 12 months. Theschool recently boasted its first National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Ms. Samantha Armentor, a senior living inNew Iberia.
With the expertise of Dr. Clayton as an Assistant Superintendent,the school transitioned over the past school year from management by afor-profit Charter Management Organization to an independent Type 2 charterschool authorized by the Board of Education and Secondary Education. 
Dr. Clayton's prior experience includes Deputy Superintendentof East Baton Rouge Parish School System and serving as the Executive Directorof Academics for the Zachary Community School System. 
“I am very excited about the opportunity to help students acrossthe state and be part of the innovative delivery model at University ViewAcademy,” said Dr. Clayton. “The school has a tradition of academicachievement, and I will continue to build on that strong foundation. Innovationresonates with who I am as an educator.”
Dr. Clayton is a graduate of Louisiana State University, earnedher master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from University of LouisianaLafayette, and received a Ph.D. from Southern University in science andmathematics education.
“I am truly honored to work alongside such an incrediblegroup of educators. We are all working daily to take UVA from a really goodschool to a school of academic excellence where learning is personalized andstudents are empowered with academic skills that will take them through collegeand beyond,” said Dr. Clayton. “It’s a great day to be at UVA!”
Dr. Luce isa former Louisiana State Superintendent of the Year who graduated from Southeastern LouisianaUniversity in Hammond, and earned a Master of Public Administration, aSpecialist Certificate in educational administration and Doctor of Philosophyin education administration and supervision from LSU. Dr. Luce served asColonel in the Louisiana Army National Guard and was awarded a Bronze Star forservice in Afghanistan.
