[CharterSchools] from Einstein Board meeting tonight

The Board of Einstein Charter Schools issued this statement on April 3, 2018:
Tonight, we announce that the Board has accepted Shawn Toranto’s request to retire and to resign effective immediately as Einstein Chief Executive Officer.  We thank Shawn for her 30 years of service to the New Orleans public school system as well as leading the Einstein Charter Schools to becoming academically, successful open-admissions charters recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a national model in serving urban, economically diverse, English-Language-Learner populations.  We are proud and grateful for her service to these children and these schools in bringing quality, public education to an often neglected segment of our city.

 

In light of Ms. Toranto's resignation, we have appointed Chief Strategy Officer Daniel Davis as Interim CEO to complete the academic year. The students, parents, teachers, and staff of Einstein Charter Schools should know that there will be no disruption in school services as we begin testing and prepare for the conclusion of this academic year.

 

Our Board has also formally appointed Lauren Narcisse to lead a committee to conduct a national search for a quality, charter school educator and leader to serve as Einstein's next CEO.  The community should be assured that the Board intends to retain a highly qualified candidate who appreciates its diverse and multilingual populations, will prioritize superior academic performance, and will continue to advance Einstein's mission of excellence in teaching and serving the needs of our student population.
