WHY A K-14 PROGRAM
Dual enrollment is the simultaneousenrollment of a student at both high school and college in which the studentreceives credit on both their high school and college transcripts for the samecourse. This provides a smoother transition to college after high schoolgraduation for many students and allows them to complete college faster byearning college credits while still in high school. Dual enrollment alsoprepares students on a career-track to gain job skills and proficiency in technicaland health science fields which may only require an Associates Degree, and thusenter the job market ready to work and earn a strong salary. They may also takeAdvanced Placement or AP courses that may add rigor to a high school student’slearning.
Louisiana is among the five lowestranked states when tested by ACT for college readiness (2015: https://www.act.org/content/dam/act/unsecured/documents/CCCR15-NationalReadinessRpt.pdf). To increase student success in post-K-12 education, aswell as improve the employment readiness quotient of the population, it isimportant to improve student academic skills and their career navigationskills.
