THE JACK FIELKOW SCHOLARSHIP,FUNDED BY THE FIELKOW FAMILY, OPENS APPLICATION PROCESS FOR 2016 
Annual Collegiate Scholarships of Up To$4,000 will be awarded to Participants Who Demonstrate Academic Achievement,Leadership Skills and Financial Need
 
 
NEW ORLEANS, LA (March 17,2016)  - Applications are now open to participants wishing toqualify for the Jack Fielkow Scholarship. The annual college scholarship program was developed by the Major LeagueBaseball Urban Youth Foundation and the Jack Fielkow Scholarship Fund andserves to benefit participants of the New Orleans MLB Urban Youth Academy andthe “Each One Save One” mentoring organization. The scholarships are worth upto $4,000 for two selected participants (each receives $2,000 total) whodemonstrate academic achievement, community participation, leadership skillsand financial need. Scholarship recipients must attend an accredited two- orfour-year college, university, vocational school or technical school.       

Recipients of the scholarship will be selected by a committee of individualsinvolved in the establishment of the program. This includes Arnie Fielkow, theformer New Orleans City Council President and current CEO of the NationalBasketball Retired Players Association, who made a $40,000 donation in hisfather’s name via the Jack Fielkow Scholarship Fund. Louisiana-based First NBCBank matched Fielkow’s donation to the scholarship program. Arnie Fielkow wasalso instrumental in the establishment of the New Orleans MLB Urban YouthAcademy and a mentor for several years with Each One Save One.
 
“My family and I are very proud to partner with MLB UrbanYouth Academy and Each One Save One for this wonderful program that both honorsthe legacy of my late father, Jack Fielkow, and gives back to youth in myadopted hometown of New Orleans,” said Arnie Fielkow. “As seen with the successof last year’s scholarship winners, we look forward to partnering with theseoutstanding organizations in assisting the youth of New Orleans.”
 
Last year’s winners included Christian Marshall of McDonogh#35 College Preparatory School and Marshante Collins of Joseph S. Clark SeniorHigh School. Marshall went on to attend Tuskegee University and Collins attendsDillard University. 
 
“We are very excited that our kids once again will have thisopportunity to secure a college scholarship,” said Eddie Davis, Manager, NewOrleans MLB Urban Youth Academy. “We stress the importance of academic successand strong character just as much as we do the fundamentals on the field and welook forward to rewarding a recipient who will showcase excellent leadershipand focus both on and off the field.”
 
“We believe that with a mentor, each child has anopportunity to reach his or her fullest potential,” said Each One Save Onerepresentative Cathy Harris. “Achieving success is achallenge without sufficient financial resources. Now, more than ever, the needis great for many graduates seeking higher education. The Jack FielkowScholarship provides our young people with an opportunity to pursue theirdreams.”
 
The deadline to fill out an application for those eligibleis April 30, 2016. A committee of judges will select two winners on May 20,2016 and the winners will be announced afterwards. Only members of the NewOrleans MLB Urban Youth Academy and Each One Save One are eligiblescholarships.

ABOUTJACK FIELKOW SCHOLARSHIP
The Jack Fielkow Scholarship Programwas created in 2011 and is named after the late Jack Fielkow, the father offormer New Orleans City Council President Arnie D. Fielkow. The Jack FielkowScholarship program funds two $2,000 college scholarships annually, one awardedto a participant from the MLB Urban Youth Academy and one from the NewOrleans-based mentoring program, Each One Save On.  Jack was an avidsports enthusiast and had a great love for the City of New Orleans. Arnieplayed an instrumental role in the building of the MLB Urban Youth Academy inNew Orleans and has a baseball background in serving as the President of MinorLeague Baseball’s AA Southern League. Arnie also previously served as ExecutiveVice President of the NFL’s New Orleans Saints and is currently the Presidentand CEO of the National Basketball Retired Players Association.  
 
ABOUTNEW ORLEANS MLB URBAN YOUTH ACADEMY
The New Orleans MLB Urban Youth Academyat Wesley Barrow Stadium opened in 2012, replacing a 55-year-old facility thatwas devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The facility operates in coordination withthe New Orleans Recreation Development Commission to offer a dynamic youthprogram that provides free, year-round baseball and softball instruction aswell as educational and baseball vocation programming for more than 2500 youngpeople from underserved and urban communities throughout southern Louisiana.
 
ABOUT EACHONE SAVE ONE
Each One Save One is a non-profit organizationdedicated to empowering children in the greater New Orleans community byproviding an army of volunteer mentors throughout the metropolitan area.
