United Way of Southeast Louisiana Seeking Help in Reaching Parents

United Way of Southeast Louisiana (UWSELA) has launched an initiative to support parents and teachers of southeast Louisiana in the implementation of higher K-12 standards. UWSELA is also working with the Louisiana Department of Education to promote the department’s parent and teacher support resources.

UWSELA has developed several tools:

A new website - www.louisianastandards.org - with resources specifically designed to help parents to support their children in the learning process.
A community survey to gather feedback from parents, teachers and others about the higher standards and the PARCC tests.
Printed over 18,000 parent math guides (and many more to come). The booklets were developed by the Center for Development & Learning in partnership with the Urban League of Greater New Orleans.

UWSELA would like to distribute the parent guides to all public schools in the southeast region and encourage ALL principals to contact us to make arrangements to pick up as many parent math guides as needed. Please contact Pam Allison at 504.827.6866,PamelaA at UnitedWaySELA.org, or Charmaine Caccioppi at CharmaineC at UnitedWaySELA.org to make arrangements to pick up the parent guides. However, if you are unable to pick up the guides we will make arrangements to have the guides delivered to you.

The community survey is designed to gather feedback from parents and teachers about their concerns and needs. This information, along with feedback that UWSELA hopes to gather during parent workshops to be held in early 2016, will be used to identify additional ways in which community partners can help our students and teachers succeed.

PLEASE TAKE THE SURVEY!
The survey can be accessed on the home page ofwww.louisianastandards.org. Principals of southeast Louisiana schools are also encouraged to post the website address and survey link to their school website and personally encourage parents to participate.
