Warren Easton Hall of Fame Announces 2015 Inductees, New Partnership with Loyola College of Law
Louis Prima and Judge J. Skelly Wright among honorees

The Warren Easton Charter Foundation will host its 23rd annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday May 15, 2015 at 7pm in the Warren Easton Auditorium at 3019 Canal Street in New Orleans; the event is free and open to the public. The 2015 inductees include two giants of the 20 th century: Louis Prima, legendary musician and entertainer, and Judge J. Skelly Wright, the singular figure who integrated New Orleans public schools in 1960. Also being inducted are Courtney Garner (class of 1993), Dr. Cynthia Honore’- Collins (class of 1976), Harry Bartlett Kelleher (class of 1929), Roy Wiegand (class of 1954), and Joe Zimmerman (class of 1957).

An additional highlight of the evening will be the presentation of more than $75,000 in Hall of Fame college scholarships to selected graduating seniors.

In honor of Judge J. Skelly Wright, a new partnership with Loyola College of Law will also be announced during the ceremony. According to this Memorandum of Understanding, Warren Easton and the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law will collaborate to foster students’ interest in legal education and careers in law, and to explore ways to expose high school students to legal principles and educational experiences. This partnership is being undertaken to honor the memory of Judge Wright, a graduate of both institutions.

Warren Easton, Louisiana’s oldest public school, began its Hall of Fame in 1991. Among the 143previous inductees are five generals, five alumni who have had schools named after them, New Orleans Mayor Victor Schiro, Michigan State Supreme Court Justice Betty Weaver, NFL Hall of Famer Steve Van Buren, musicians Pete Fountain and Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, and Grammy Award winners Nicholas Payton and Cosimo Matassa. Actress Sandra Bullock, a major benefactor of the school, was inducted as an honorary member in 2009.
