Joins the Eastbank Collaborativeof Charter Schools (ECCS)
ECCS to now offer Jefferson Parish School Board Briefs
Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (KDHSA), a high performing K-12 charter school located at 2504 Maine Avenue, hasjoined the 12-school Eastbank Collaborative of Charter Schools (ECCS), anon-profit established to protect the autonomy and sustainability of NewOrleans area charters through shared services, networking and advocacy, announcedPresident Alexina Medley.
Establishedin 2006, ECCS is directed by Dr. Rose Peterson who facilitates services amongthe member schools, thereby helping them reduce costs by exploring economies ofscale, sharing resources, offering operational grants, and helping schoolsnavigate local, state and federal educational regulations and activities.
“Ourcollaborative is a strong, interactive alliance which helps charters protecttheir structure, durability and operations,” said President Medley. All ECCSschools do not use Charter Management Organizations, and are independently runby local non-profit boards.
The existing 12 member schools are Audubon CharterSchool, Benjamin Franklin High School, Einstein Charter Schools, Hynes Charter School,International School of Louisiana (ISL), Lake Forest Elementary Charter, LusherCharter School, Robert Russa Moton Charter, New Orleans Charter Science andMath High School “Sci High”, Andrew Wilson Charter School, Morris JeffCommunity School and Warren Easton Charter High.
Foundedin 2012 by CEO Patty Glaser, Kenner Discovery Health SciencesAcademy (KDHSA) is oneof the highest performing public charter schools in Jefferson Parish. The school prides itself on the creativeand rigorous academic learning environment and strong school culture it hasdeveloped for college and career readiness in health and sciences, technology, andproject–based learning.
Asa result of the ECCS’ expansion into Jefferson Parish Schools with KDHSA and earlier with ISL’s JeffersonParish Bunche campus, ECCS willnow provide Jefferson Parish School Briefs to review the agendas and actions ofthe parish school board. ECCSalready provides this service for the Orleans Parish School Board, and the RSDas it affects Orleans, as well as the Board of Elementary and SecondaryEducation meetings.
