To our statewide Common Core coalition, sorry about the short notice on that vote. I am happy to say that on this procedural vote to try to by-pass the House Education Committee, the House voted 36-62 against the motion. That’s what we wanted and that means we’ve overcome the first legislative hurdle on Common Core this session and the bill will be heard as appropriate in committee.

This was a very solid vote for us, but please keep in mind it was only a procedural vote. Often legislators can do one thing on procedure and something else on substance. That means we still need to continue our efforts, make our legislative contacts and execute our strategies just as we have done in the past. This was the first vote, but it will not be the last. Of that we can rest assured.

But it is great news, nonetheless, and also a reminder that anything can happen at any time.

To those who have asked, we are still in communication with Chairman Carter about the date for the committee hearing on the bills. We’ll let you know as soon as we get a final word.

Again, many thanks to all!
