Lawmakers and the public will have a chance to see STEM education in action on the first day of the Legislative session, when Kenilworth Science and Technology School students showcase their STEM projects at the state capitol on Monday.
About 18 Kenilworth students will be set up at nine tables between the House and Senate chambers. The projects, which were featured at the statewide Louisiana STEM Expo recently, give students a chance to showcase their mastery of science, technology, engineering and math skills.
"This is a great opportunity for these students to watch democracy in action, and legislators can see how the state's investment in education is paying off," said Dr. Eugene Kennedy, an LSU education professor and member of Kenilworth's school board.
The students will be at the capitol between noon and 3 p.m.
Kenilworth Science and Technology Charter School is a state-sanctioned charter school with an academic focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM. Formerly a part of the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, Kenilworth has demonstrated consistent academic growth since its conversion to a charter school in 2009.
