Lights On New Orleans
Young Audiences ofLouisianais working along with along with BetterThan Ezra Foundation to bringlocal awareness to the national Lights OnAfterschool celebration. Lights On NewOrleansis part of national celebration sponsored by the Afterschool Alliance that calls attention to the importance ofafterschool programs for America's children, families and communities. Thisawareness includes the 13% (100,355) of Louisiana's K-12 children participatein afterschool programs and 23% (173,749) of K-12 youth are responsible fortaking care of themselves after school (included in attached LouisianaAfterschool fact sheet).
As part of this celebration, the Better Than Ezra Foundation is sponsoring performances by Young Audiences of Louisiana’sprofessional teaching artists at New Orleans area schools. These performancesare part of a free night of family entertainment. The celebration also featuresmega event across from City Hall in Duncan Plaza. The mega event is alsofeatures NORDC and the City of New Orleans, providingspacewalks, a rock climbing walls, and other family friendly activities from (4:00pm – 6:00 pm) on October 23rd. Otherpartnerships include VIET and LACAL sponsoring an essay and art competition andawards will be distributed at the mega event.
