[CharterSchools] KID smART Announces Emotional Literacy Curriculum Launch

KID smART is delighted to announce the public launch of With Feeling:  Emotional Intelligence through the Arts, an arts integrated emotional literacy curriculum for use by classroom teachers in grades Kindergarten through fourth grade.  We would appreciate your help as we extend an invitation to New Orleans’ elementary school teachers.
 
KID smART staff will orient local teachers to use of the curriculum on October 15, from 4:30-7:00 P.M., at Andrew H. Wilson School, 3617 General Pershing (enter on Miro).  Attendees will explore the curriculum units through lesson demonstrations and will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.  Participating teachers will receive hard copies of lessons and strategies adaptable to any classroom to help students access, comprehend, and take ownership of their social-emotional domain.

Students who experience emotional or behavioral challenges often struggle to be successful in school settings.  This arts integrated curriculum provides teachers strategies and techniques for teaching and developing their students’ social/emotional skills through the visual and theatre arts in a variety of learning environments.


With Feeling was developed by KID smART and artist/educator Sophie Johnson.  The curriculum will also be accessible online free of charge at www.kidsmart.org.   It was developed with funding from the Institute of Mental Hygiene and the Edward Wisner Fund and support from Andrew H. Wilson Charter.
