Melanie Tennyson NamedNew Head 
of School atInternational School of Louisiana (ISL)
 
InternationalSchool of Louisiana (ISL) is pleased to announce its selection of MelanieTennyson as the school’s new Head of School of its three campuses. The school’sBoard of Trustees made their selection at their June Board Meeting and voted to sign Ms.Tennyson’s contract.
 
“Itis with great pleasure that we announce Melanie Tennyson as our new leader forthe International School of Louisiana,” said Matt Amoss, ISL Board of TrusteesPresident. “The board is excited about the prospect of engaging Melanie, and welook forward to continuing to build and improve ISL’s great programs under herleadership.” Ms. Tennyson’s first day as Head of School will be July 1.
 
Ms.Tennyson currently serves as Principal of the Uptown Campus of the highperforming language immersion school. She joined ISL in 2006 and becamePrincipal in 2007. Formerly, Ms. Tennyson worked at St. Paul’s Episcopal Schooland Delgado Community College, Charity School of Nursing, and Allied Health Library.Principal Tennyson holds a BA degree in Latin American Studies from SUNYPlattsburgh, a MLIS from LSU and was awarded a Fellowship from the SchoolLeadership Center in 2009. She has participated in principal exchanges toArgentina sponsored by the Fulbright Commission and China via Han Ban toobserve education systems in distant countries.  
 
“Theimportance of the international outlook and language skills provided at ISLcannot be underestimated,” said Ms. Tennyson. “I am thrilled and honored to be offeredthe position as Head of School and eager to continue the ISL legacy ofexcellence in language immersion in Louisiana.”
 
The HOS positionwas vacated when Sean Wilson, who was Head of School at ISL since 2006, left tobe Head of School at the International High School of New Orleans.
 
ISL has expandedthe number of students and campuses it serves, including Jefferson Parish. ISLwas named Charter School of the Year, a Certified World Language School and isconsistently a high-performing school.  
 

Dedicated to culturaldiversity and global awareness, ISL (grades K-8) isthe only multi-language immersion school chartered by the State ofLouisiana.  >From their first day of school, students are taught coreacademic subjects in either French or Spanish by native speaking teachers. AtISL children learn a second language naturally, through everyday conversationand classroom instruction.  Committed to breaking down barriers inpublic education by teaching children to embrace diversity in their community, ISLis dedicated to providing all of its students with a unique and high-qualityeducation and to helping young people develop, not only as students but also ascommunity leaders and global citizens.
