Superintendents and their leadership teams from East Baton Rouge, St.
James, St. Charles school districts to meet with their counterparts from greater
New Orleans area to orient their teams to The Vanderbilt Assessment for
Leadership in Education designed to achieve increased student achievement.
The Vanderbilt Assessment for Leadership has been piloted in districts in
Louisiana Education to be shared with the Superintendents and their teams.

Background: This is the eighth annual Superintendent’s Summit arranged by
the School Leadership Center. The Superintendents and their leadership teams
from 10 plus school districts will meet in a day-long seminar to learn how
to study the Vanderbilt Assessment for Leadership in Education (a principal
evaluation tool) and the tools usefulness in their district to improve
student learning, and their performance scores concerning student outcomes.
Invited districts include East Baton Rouge, St. Charles, St. James, St. Tammany,
Jefferson, Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Recovery School District, and
Algiers Charter School Association. This is a unique collaboration, not
competition between school districts where the focus is learning from each other
about how best to obtain improved student achievement.
Who is leading the Summit:
Dr. Brian Riedlinger CEO of the School Leadership Center of Greater New
Orleans (SLC) with staff plan and host the Summit each year.SLC, a principals’
center focuses on improving student achievement through enhanced school
leadership with the principalship as the primary conduit. With 12 years of
experience workingwith principals and improved student achievement in
districts, SLC also works with aspiring leaders, school leadership teams, individual
school ‘Discovery Walks’ and the newly granted ability to certify
principals. Dr. Riedlinger is also one of the leading founders of the New Orleans
charter school movement, including the Algiers Charter School Association.
Dr. Ellen Goldring of Vanderbilt University will present the Vanderbilt
Assessment of Leadership in Education (Val Ed) model. Dr. Goldring is the
Alexander Heard Distinguished Service Professor and Professor of Education Policy
and Leadership at Peabody College, Vanderbilt University and she is a
co-author of the Val Ed Assessment. She recently served as the coeditor of
Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis. Her work has been funded by the
Spencer Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Institute of
Educational Sciences. Most recently, she designed and implemented a principal
leadership academy in partnership with the Metropolitan Nashville Public
Schools. Ellen is also a board member of the School Leadership Center in New
Orleans.
