Friends of Algiers Charter School Association:
There is some checking still to do but let me 'stick out my chest' a little.
Being part of the
Teacher Advancement Program (TAP), all ACSA schools are assessed by their
student test scores in a Value Added model. In simple terms each student's score
is recorded from last year's test scores. Then using all of the schools in the
state - an estimation is drawn from where the student should be after a year.
Scores are pretty simple. If students gained one year in a year the student
and school composite would be 3. A score of 2 is one standard deviation below
the norm and a 1 is two standard deviations
below average. Likewise a score of 4 is one SD above the norm and a score of
5 is two SD above the norm.
The good news....Of the 6 ACSA schools who have been testing long enough to
make the judgment...Five of our schools scored 5's and one school scored a
three. Assessments were made on two other schools, but the numbers cannot be
really used...but those scored 5's also. That means one school scored in the
average/expected range and all others scored more than one year progress and as much
as two years in a year.
OK I'll suck my chest back in...for now. Just wanted to share the magic
happening in ACSA classrooms
