To run for office in Amtgard, one must qualify through a series of
artistic and fighting events, as well as taking a few out-and-out
tests. The fighting and arts and sciences tournaments are held twice
a year, and our next local iteration of this event is rapidly
approaching. Specifically, local Crown Quals will be held on
Saturday, April 10th. There will be both fighting and arts and
science tournaments open to anybody interested in participating, and
reeves tests will be administered to anybody interested in reeving
(refereeing) on our field, or any other field in Westmarch.
The fighting tournament will be held in double-elimination style, and
will be comprised of five categories. They are as follows:
Single Short Sword
Double Short Swords
Short Sword and Shield
Great Weapon/Polearm
Open Weapon
The arts and sciences tournament will consist of seven categories,
each with various sub-categories as noted below. There will be five
judges, who will score each entry on a scale of 1.0 to 5.0 in 0.1
increments. No entry that has previously been entered in quals at any
level may be re-entered. Each entry will be have its overall score
determined by taking the average of the scores given by the judges,
with the highest and lowest excluded. The overall winner of the A&S
portion of quals will be determined by adding the top 7 entries of
each participant.
